The Instructor

During the 70's and up to the early 90's, crime was a common occurrence in New York City, with robberies and gang violence happening on a regular basis. Cho became a victim of three mugging attempts by the time he was 17 years old. Learning self-defense eventually became a necessity, but unfortunately his parents were extremely protective and he knew that they would forbid him from studying. He secretly began to look for a school after he turned 18 years old, keeping the information secret from them. He soon found that many of the schools he visited trained their students to compete at Karate point tournaments and placed no emphasis on practical self-defense. In December 1993, he joined a local Wing Chun Kung-Fu school headed by Sifu Michael Militano, a direct student under the renowned Wing Chun Grandmaster, Sigung Jason Lau.

Discipleship

After years of demonstrating his diligence and commitment, Sifu Militano selected him to become a disciple. After becoming a disciple, he continued his training and learned the more advanced aspects of the Wing Chun system. Eventually, he was given the Assistant Instructor certifications and began to help teach in the school.

Teaching

In 2012, after 19 years of studying, Cho was eventually told to establish his own class. It was also that same year when his Sigung had given him his blessings to teach Wing Chun to the next generation of the Lau Wai Wing Chun family.

Further Training

In addition to Wing Chun, Cho has also trained in Muay Thai for 3.5 years at Evolution Muay Thai under Kru Brandon Levi.

Recently, Grandmaster Jason Lau, one of the top Wing Chun instructor in the world, has offered to further refine and complete his training. He is truly honored, as well as grateful, for the friendship and support from this great master.

To extend beyond his understanding of Wing Chun he has taken and completed several firearm tactics courses at the Private Military Company, Academi (formerly known as Blackwater, USA), in Moyock, North Carolina as well as in Sig Sauer's Academy, in Epping, NH, where he learned to apply Wing Chun's theory of Economy of Movement when transitioning from various shooting positions.

Aside from Martial Arts, Cho is a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and has both the Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certifications. He also completed the Functional Trainer and Sports Performance Specialist Certification with the American Council on Exercise (ACE Fitness).

He has trained clients at both Ballys Total Fitness and at Work Train Fight in Noho, NYC.
